Valentine's mantel reveal

I finally got my garland finished and hung on the mantel this past weekend, so now I can finally reveal the whole mantel to you. Every project seems to be done just a few minutes here and a few minutes there, so it takes me a while.

On the left I used my heart specimen art, plate, and one of the rose balls from last year.

On the right side I used the framed fuzzy heart, and the same books and candle holders you saw in my everyday mantel. I swapped out the bean filler for some red foam filler from Dollar Tree.

I made two garlands. One is made with heart doilies topped with punched hearts. I inked the edges of the punched hearts to make them "pop" a little more. The other garland is made with pom poms. The pom pom garland is easy to do. Just thread some dental floss on a needle and run it through the pom poms.

I like this year's version of the mantel better than last years. Do you decorate your mantel for Valentine's Day? This is only my second time.

You may have noticed my ornament topiary in my last post about my window wreaths. That was another project that was on my list last year. I was inspired by these at BHG because they were in my color scheme. I set out to make one this year. I didn't follow the directions at BHG. Instead, I did a little more searching and then just did it my way. Most people suggest painting your stryofoam ball in a complimentary color first. I skipped this step because I was in a hurry, but I do recommend you do that. I used a 4 in styrofoam ball, 3 different size ornaments and a glitter pick. I also used a dowel rod which I covered in washi tape and a planter from the dollar tree. My planter was originally bronze, but with a few coats of spray paint it became silver. You also need some foam for the planter and something to cover it with. I used moss and blue glass pebbles. The pebbles give the bottom some weight.
