Valentine's Day Painted Birdhouse

Welcome to my little "love shack"- one for love birds. I have a small stash of unfinished birdhouses and decided that now would be the perfect time to add one as part of my Valentine's Day decor.  I started out with this:  An unfinished wood birdhouse from Michael's and some sandpaper. It's always a good idea to sand these down smooth. It's a little obvious after painting that I should have done a little more sanding.  This was one of those projects where I had an overall idea of what I wanted but didn't have the details together. They just sort of came together as I worked. I knew it was going to be red and pink. I used Americana paints Baby Pink and Craft Smart cherry cobbler. Both are acrylics.   My original idea was to have hearts on it somewhere. I have also been itching to try out some new stencils so I went to Michael's with a gift card in hand. I purchased the Martha Stewarts adhesive stencils in the scrolls set. (no he...

Mini painted birdhouses

Seems like birdhouses are all over blog land these days. Most are using their's for home decor. You may have noticed mine in my Easter mantel . The first one you see below was purchased from Michael's unfinished but already on a pedestal. I painted parts of it and then used Mod Podge and scrapbook paper for the roof and sides. The next two also came from Michael's but they were not on pedestals. I purchased the wood bases at Michael's and already had a dowel.  The hubby cut the dowels to the length I wanted and I glued the dowels to the bases and birdhouses with wood glue. Drilling a hole first would have been better, but we didn't have a bit in the appropriate size. Again, acrylic paint and scrapbook paper brightend up each one. Just an FYI- some light sanding is needed on each birdhouse before you start painting. I didn't sand enough and up close you see I have some rough edges. Technique Thursday/ Faux stitching

Do you like the look of stitching on your paper projects, but don't have a machine or don't feel like messing with threading a needle? Then this technique is for you. You need: 1. A Ruler 2. A paper piercer or large needle ( here's one by Making Memor ies) 3. Mat ( here's one by Fiskars) Lay your project on your mat and punch holes evenly spaced by using your ruler to line them up and space them. Once you've punched your holes, "connect" them with a marker or pen. This detailing looks great on the finished project!

Friday Feature

These unique items are from Dinner Time Chimes . My hubby loves wind chimes and we have been working hard in our yards and gardens, so I was excited to find these. These would be cool in any garden. You can even listen to the chimes here.
