Christmas home tour 2014- part two

Come on in, take a look around. It's a blue and green theme with a pop of pink.  The entry way is decked with mini trees. A miniture blue tree takes center stage while an ornament tree , yarn tree , and button tree flock the left.  On the right are some glass pebble trees and an old ceramic tree. I previously used these trees in different places and ways. We took a look at the dining room table last week. It's a blue and green winter wonderland tablescape .    Come a little further in. We'll sit by the fireplace and take in the glow of the tree. The garland for the mantel was purchased this year from Michael's and the stockings came from the Target Dollar Spot. More of the handmade trees deck the mantel. The candy trees were previously used in a tablescape. The ornament topiary is out in the morning room again and the windows are decked with wreaths , all made a few years ago. Hope you enjoyed the tour. Many of...

Our traditional Christmas tree

This year I went back to a traditional theme of red and gold for my Christmas decorations. My husband has a collection of ornaments that date back to his childhood and I really wanted to use them on the tree so I decided this year we would go with a more traditional look. Originally I was thinking more rustic and I wanted to use burlap, but after checking with Michael's and finding out that their wide burlap ribbon is not flame retardant (and burlap is very flammable), hubby vetoed that idea. He was afraid the lights might get too hot. Better be safe than sorry. So I used plaid ribbon as a garland and the rest of the tree is filled with ornaments. Nothing fancy, but I love the way it turned out. We even put out hubby's holiday train this year around the base of the tree.   Here are some of our favorite ornaments:   Vintage santa and note the cross stitch ornament from 1983. Clothespin nutcracker/solider- My absolute favorite. Hubby made these as a chil...

Cupcake liner trees

These cute little cupcake liner trees are another idea I saw while perusing magazines. (We spend a good many evenings at Books a Million drinking coffee and hanging out. Of course, you can find me in the back looking at the eye candy magazines.) These are so easy to do.   Find some cute cupcake liners. I picked up mine at Michael's 75/$1.00 and they had a bonus mini liner set in them. If I get around to making treats, I'll use those mini liners. Cut the center circle of the liner out.   You will be left with a ruffle that you can then glue or pin to a cone. I had some styrofoam cones in my stash. I decided to pin mine on. (Less committment- I can take them off if I need the cone for something else.) When you reach the top you will have an adorable ruffled tree. I made two of them and they have a home on my Christmas mantel now. Thanks for stopping by. I'll be sharing here: Think Pink Sundays * Under the Table and Dreaming * Sundae Scoop...

O CHRISTmas tree, O CHRISTmas tree

This year's tree is in the same color scheme as last year, but I used less of the white and more blue and green ornaments.   Here's a shot where I played around with the camera to get the lights to "sparkle" or look like starbursts.

CHRISTmas tree

This year I decided to do a green and blue theme, but I didn't really have any green and blue ornaments. I bought a few and mixed in some silver balls and the white crochet ornaments my mother-in-law made. In years past, our tree has been full of these crochet ormantments and clear glass and red balls. I never have a tree topper and always have to make one unless I stick to the all crochet and then I have a large crochet angel to sit on top. This year I used a white sparkly ribbon, ting ting, a few picks from DT, and some of the tinsel garland I have already mentioned several times before. I'm getting my money's worth out of that stuff! One of my favorite ornaments on the tree this year are these white glazed reindeer that belonged to my hubby long before we met. I don't remember using them in the past, but I love them this year. I also found some random ornaments in our collection in my color theme like this blue and green beaded ornament I ...

Mini trees- yarn and glass pebbles

I thank my God upon every remembrance of you. Philippians 1:3, New King James Version (NKJV) Happy Thanksgiving! I'm thankful for so many blessings, including you- my readers, followers, and visitors who comment and encourage me. I hope you all have a wonderful day with family and friends. Once the turkey and leftovers are put away, IT WILL BE ON. The full on Christmas shopping, decorating, wrapping and cooking. Am I the only one who waits until the end of November to make gifts and decorations?  I've tried out a couple of cone trees this week to use in my decorating. I had two foam cones from the Dollar Tree (no longer there! ugh- I wanted more). I wrapped one with some yarn remnants I got at the Thrift Store ( same bag I made my wreath from). I added some sequins with pins randomly and topped it with a Dollar General store ornament. I took another cone and glued on blue glass pebbles from the Dollar Tree. I'll be doing another in green, as I plan to use blue ...

CHRISTmas tree

The hustle and bustle really has kicked in. It's been two weeks since I shared anything here. The tree has been completed for about a week and a half but I just haven't had time to post. I'm sure you understand. I used to put up multiple trees but due to space and a fur baby, I've only done one the past two years. I've chose to do the butterfly tree. I have a collection of butterfly ornaments. I added in berry sprays, poinsettia garland, and ribbon. Here it is: The tree was up for a few days with no topper. I just don't have a suitable topper. But then I took my mother on a weekend trip for her 70th birthday (yes, we actually have four family birthdays in December amongst the Christmas rush). I bought some butterfly sprays and really intended to work them into the tree. Then it hit me- I could arrange them on top. It would really look better with some other sprays worked in, but it will do for this year. Maybe I'll hit the Michael's clearance after...
