Fall mantel and blessings garland

Remember my washi tape clothespins ? Remember I said they were part of a bigger project? I'm finally able to reveal my fall mantel and blessings garland. Some simple things on each side of the mantel. And the garland. I used fabric scraps from my stash and tied them to a string of twine to make a garland.  I was inspired by this one at Hoosier Homemade . I mentioned it here about a year ago and made it happend this year. The washi tape clothespins were used to pin doily leaves from the Dollar Tree onto the garland. I wrote "Count Your Blessings" on the center one. I had six more leaves so I asked the hubby to name three things he was thankful for and I added three more. Since we both said each other, I combined it into "You and me" on one leaf.   I think the leaves will become a tradition for us each year since I can change them out.   Just a heads up. I'll be having a Black Friday Sale in my etsy shop November 23, 2012 to ...

Ten ways to use fabric scraps and stashes

I'm not much of a seamstress, but my grandmother sewed and quilted and I've held on to much of her stash. I also tend to gravitate towards the discount bin at Joann's for fabric for those non-sewing fabric craft projects, so I really "must" do something with all of it. Today's Must Do Monday is all about fabric projects you can make with scraps. Some of these would even be great Christmas gifts or cute package decorations! Ruffled key fobs from Twin Dragonfly Designs     Mug mat or coaster from My Personal Reflections     Applique dish towels by Cathie and Steve     Fabric covered books by I Am Momma Hear Me Roar     Scrap fabric bunting by Craftaholics Anonymous   Of course by now we all now we can make tons of stuff with rosettes made from fabric scraps. Why not turn those into keychains too?     Rosette key chains?     Fabric covered photo mats   ...

15 DIY Pumpkins

Happy Labor Day fellow Americans! For many, this marks the end of summer and  everyone starts gearing up for fall. For us southerners, it means a few more weeks of hot weather and fall won't be a thought until late September or October (maybe.) Nonetheless, I can't help thinking of fall decor and what better symbol to last from fall to Halloween through Thanksgiving than the pumpkin. Here are 15 ways to decorate a pumpkin. You knew they wouldn't escape washi tape- from Real Simple   Flannel pumpkin by The V Spot   No sew burlap pumpkins     Duct tape pumpkin from The V Spot     Book page mod podge pumpkins       Die cut felt flower pumpkin     Book page pumpkin   Fabric strip pumpkin   Fabric decoupaged pumpkin     Chevron pumpkin     Dryer vent pumpkins     toilet paper roll and twine pumpki...

Ruffle necklace- Tried it out Thursday

This week (or rather last night) I made myself a ruffle necklace. Maybe I still have Valentine's Day on the brain, but I chose a red and white vintage flocked swiss dot scrap from my Grandmother's stash for my necklace. I think it would actually look really cute with a navy blue shirt for a patriotic look. I used a scrap that was about thirty inches long by three inches wide and followed the tutorial by Poppy Chic Designs.  I used about 21 inches of chain from my jewelry making stash and added a lobster clasp to it. I took a short scrap of red with white swiss dot and made another tiny ruffle and folded it into a flower. I sewed a button in the center and then sewed the flower to the necklace. I think it's pretty cute! If you have been wanting to try this project, go ahead! It's quick and easy, about thirty minutes give or take. Ruffle necklace - Must Do Monday

I've got lots of fabric pieces and scraps. One of the fun things I want to do with them is make a ruffle necklace. Here are three that inspire me: via Creature Comforts Poppy Chic Designs Happy Together

More fabric wrapped bangles

I pulled some strips of fabric out of my stash and wrapped up a few more bangles. (You can see the first one here.)  I love these rich colors for fall/winter. I tied the strips on the maroon colored one using the technique referenced here by Sunshine Mama. Note: The fabric takes up some of the space inside, so if you're not careful you could end up with a bracelet that's too small for your arm depending on the width of the bangle you start with and the thickness of the fabric. Must Do Monday- DIY Pumpkin decor- 5 ways

It's time to start thinking about fall projects ( if only the temperature would cooperate around here.) I admired all the pumpkin projects in blogland last fall. Maybe this year I will get to try some. I had the good fortune to find some craft pumpkins at a yard sale this spring ( I wouldn't pay the Michael's price last fall) so here are some ideas I have for them:   Stamped and decoupaged from Ink Stains

Fancy flops - Tried it out Thursday

I took some inspiration from A Couple of Craft Addicts  and made my own ruffled flip flops.

Thrift store finds

I like searching the thrift shops for great finds. This week I was on a business trip in Hilton Head, SC, and I hit some of their local thrift shops before coming home. It's interesting to see the different types of items in a different area than the one I'm from. At one of the shops I scored a bunch of fabric, some necklaces (for repurposing) and a pair of shredding scissors. The finds I'm most excited about are 5 yards of silk fabric for 5 bucks!! and the shredding scissors. I have a paper flower project to try with the scissors. No crafting got done this week but I do have some great finds for future projects. I did squeeze in a project today for a last minute (belated) birthday gift. I'll be posting it shortly.
