Memorial Day is next week! Do you need some ideas to get ready for your Memorial Day celebration? Here are one dozen decor, craft and food ideas you can use for Memorial Day or Fourth of July. You'll be decked out in red, white and blue in no time.
Thanks to all who have sacrificed life, and to the living who sacrificed time, health, and family, to make this a safe and free place for me and my family to live!
You may have noticed the centerpiece in my patriotic star applique placemat post. It's an easy one to do. All you need is some mason jars or jars of any kind. These are probably empty pickle or spaghetti jars. In addition to the jars you need: sand ( I used the decorative kind from Michael's) acrylic jewel accent stones ( Michael's) (These have been used in Christmas and Valentine's decor so they were worth the investment.) candles- I'm using led tealights mini flags mini star wired garland dowels Fill jars partly with sand and top with jewel stones. Wrap star garland around your dowel. Stick dowel and flag in jar. The third jar was made with tissue paper and Mod Podge. Apply strips of paper to the inside of jar. Add a flag and a candle. This looks cool lit up. I told you it was easy! What easy and quick centerpiece ideas do you have? I'd love to hear about them in the comments. Sharing here: Think Pink S...
This is a fairly easy project to dress up plain placemats for the Fourth of July (or Memorial Day) holiday. You'll need a placemat- fabric or the woven plastic kind from the Dollar Tree. I chose the plastic ones from the Dollar Tree because I would be using them outside. Find a star template and some red, white and blue fabric scraps. I had a plastic scrapbooking template but you could draw your own or download one from the net. Using your template, trace stars on fabric. Cut out. Stitch your stars to your mats with embroidery thread. Done. Easy. Here's a couple of close ups of my mats. I made a cute little wreath in red, white, and blue for Memorial Day (and Fourth of July). I was inspired by and followed the tutorial here from Little Birdie Secrets. I used papers from my scrapbook paper stash and a wreath form that I cut from a cardboard box. I have a Slice but used an "old school" plastic scrabooking star template to cut my stars so that I could stack multiple sheets of paper and cut more than one star at a time. I cut 12 large stars from patterned paper and about 16 from red. I adhered the red ones first as a background so the cardboard would not show. I glued everything with good ol' Elmer's multipurpose glue. (I may be one of the few crafters that doesn't really like glue guns.) The Elmer's worked great. Did I mention that I won a prize pack from them ( here )? It came in this week and I got a lot of loot! Thanks! I used buttons, rhinestones, and pearls from my stash to embellish the stars. On half of them, I also added Prima fl...
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13 And in particular, the U.S. soldier, who lays down his life for friend, family, and those that don't support him, so we may all enjoy our freedoms. Happy Memorial Day. I hope you have lots of fun, as well as some time for reverence and reflection.
Today is Memorial Day. With roots back to the Civil War, this day is more than a three day weekend and a trip to the beach. It is a day to honor and remember those who paid the price for the rest of us to have the freedom to do things like taking trips to the beach and barbequeing with the family. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to visit Arlington Cemetary and all of the Memorials in D.C. in 2005. It was a very sobering experience. While researching for this post, I came across this very eloquent post. I couldn't express it better, so visit Mueller's blog and reflect on today's true meaning. http://blog.ediets.com/2008/05/memorial-day-tribute.html Memorial Day Comments ~ Myspace Comments
