Metal stamped initial necklaces

Metal stamping has been on my list of things to try out for a long time. I have owned a set of metal stamps purchased from Harbor Freight for over a year now but just finally got around to using them a couple of months ago. I made necklaces for Christmas gifts for my mother and in-laws. These were a lot of fun and come together fairly quickly so they would aslo be great gifts for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day or anytime you need to whip a a gift for a special girl friend. My stamp set is 1/8 inch and I used 9mm sterling silver discs. I also used sterling silver chain for these since they were gifts. I purchased my supplies in bulk from  Silver City Beads on etsy so I have around $10 invested in each necklace. They can be made for less if you forgo the sterling. Other supplies included beads, charms, 4mm and 6mm jump rings. This is a great stash busting project if you are already into jewelry making or beading. Adding a bead to your nec...

Two strand bright bead necklace

Over a year ago, I saw a necklace at Anthropologie that I really wanted to knock off. However, I forgot to save a picture of it and it disappeared from the site. After a long search I finally found a picture of it.      The pastel consortium   After more time passing, I finally got around to making my own. I couldn't find as close a match for the beads as I wanted, but used it for inspiration nonetheless.   Most of my beads came from Michael's and a few from etsy. The suede cord came from Michaels. Besides the beads and cord, all you need is beading wire, crimp beads, and jump rings.     This has been a fun necklace to wear this summer.     Thanks for stopping by.   I'll be sharing here: Think Pink Sundays * Under the Table and Dreaming * Sundae Scoop * Creative Bloggers Party and Hop * Craftomaniac Monday * Make the Scene Monday * Make It Pretty Monday * Masterpiece Monday * ...

Adding a little neon- 7 Neon DIY tutorials

When I first saw the comeback of neon, I thought "oh no- flashback to those early teen years that I do not want to be reminded of." However, it has grown on me and there are a few projects on my "Must Do" list I'd like to try for the summer. Glass bead bauble necklace

In addition to all the great ideas and projects I come across in blogland that I want to try out, I collect various magazines with projects that I want to try. (Am I the only one addicted to magazines?) This week I finally tried out a necklace in one of my Bead Style issues. Here is the magazine project (it's from Best of Bead Style 2011) I'd love to create this one as featured with all the colored beads, but I was using some of what I had on hand, along with some extras I picked up on clearance at Michael's this week. That's the beauty of DIY- you can take an idea and make it yours. I followed the tutorial but substituted color and size of beads. I also tweaked the number of beads called for- the magazine projects calls for 12 20 mm round beads, rondelles, and pearls. I used all round pearls and my largest was 18mm. I used 10 instead of 12 of the 18mm because the strand in my stash only had 11 beads. I adjusted the other numbers by two less as well. ...

Anthro Paisley Rebirth knockoff

Here's my version of the Anthro Paisley Rebirth necklace based on the tutorial from Bev at Flamingo Toes.  I loosely followed the tutorial. I didn't wrap my chain the same nor did I wrap it as tightly because I was afraid I would run out of chain. I didn't have quite as much as I needed. Here's mine compared to Bev's.

Ruffle necklace - Must Do Monday

I've got lots of fabric pieces and scraps. One of the fun things I want to do with them is make a ruffle necklace. Here are three that inspire me: via Creature Comforts Poppy Chic Designs Happy Together

WIWW- A new necklace

Happy Wednesday. Today is the day to link up with Lindsey at the Pleated Poppy for WIWW . It's motivation to dress, dress up, mix, remix, and work your wardrobe. I wanted a long necklace and hubby came through and gave me one for Christmas. It's from Chico's. Here's how a wore it a few days after Christmas. (Yes, I'm still a little behind on the dates, and I don't really like posting  a week's worth of outfits in one post anyway. For a daily account of what I wear, visit me at Savvy Southern Style .) skirt, sweater- JCPenney, leather jacket- gift boots- Ana/JCPenney, necklace- Chico's/ gift

Everything's coming up roses (or rosettes)

Okay, I'll admit that title is a little cheesy! Do you ever struggle with post titles? Anyway, I've been making rosettes for quite some time now, and I think rosette necklaces are the perfect accessory when you need to match or coordinate color with an outfit or add a pop of color to an outfit. A couple of weeks ago I needed something to tie an outfit together so I whipped us this necklace in about an hour.

Anthro necklace knock off- Tried it out Thursday

Good morning! It's almost Friday. This week I tried out Beverly's tutorial at Flamingo Toes for the Anthro Pernilla knock off. By the way, this necklace is no longer available at Anthro, so I consider the tutorial for it highly valuable.

Necktie necklace

I've seen a couple of versions of the necktie necklace around, but the inspiration for this one came from Sewstylish Spring 2011 issue. I made mine loosely based on the instructions in the article, but changed a couple of things. I made a different flower and did not add a string of pearls to the ruffle like the one in the article.

Shell and glass bead necklace

Here is a necklace that I made for my mother as her mother's day gift. I didn't really have a completed project or directions to go by for this. I browsed some bead magazines and picked up a few ideas, like the beads inside the shell circles, but mostly I came up with my own design and went with it. Here's a list of materials and a how to. Most of the materials came from Michael's. This is simply stringing and the only skill you need is crimping. Make sure you get the right size crimp bead for your stringing wire. Beadalon tells you on their packaging which to use. HERE is a tutorial on how to close a crimp bead. Rose shell carved pendant Beadalon Satin Silver stringing wire 2 crimp beads 2 split rings 1 lobster clasp 8 6mm gemstone beads 2 25mm Round lentil beads 8 Jet shell loops 6 round jet cat's eye 6 each 6, 8, and 10 mm faceted beads 16 silver bicone spacers 10 glass sead beads 10 white Nebula glass shiny 8x10mm beads I didn't write down the finished...

Clear blue ocean

My newest necklace creation reminds me of the clear blue ocean. I was in the mood to make jewelry last weekend so I dug into the stash of beads I've been collecting. I had no instruction to follow for this, other than the inspiration of seeing some seed bead chokers in a book I have. I picked up these raku beads at Big Lots one day and a tube of glass E beads at Tuesday Morning another day. I had no intention of using them together and didn't know what I was buying them for- I just knew they were a great price and I was drawn to the colors. Lucky for me these work together perfectly. Don't you just love it when your stash provides all the inpsiration you need for a project? Here's what I came up with: I made a set of earrings to go with it. This was my first try at  a wire wrapped loop. I love these vibrant colors and would love to keep this for myself, but I've listed it in my shop  for someone else to love and enjoy. Check out the link parties on the si...

Stella and Dot knock-off

Somewhere in blogland I discovered Stella and Dot jewelry. I've never been to a show but have browsed the website often. I've been wanting a long necklace for some time and their "Rachel " caught my eye, but I'm not really into paying $89 and above for a necklace. So what's a girl to do? KNOCK IT OFF! I've been having fun learing to string beads into jewelry and decided I'd tackle this one. This necklace is made to wear two ways. Here there's both ways: Here is mine:  and here is mine being worn: Mine's a little longer in length than there's but I love it. It's so light and I had so much fun wearing it last night. All of my beads and materials came from Michael's (40-50% off)  and my investment is about $30 (you could say less because I have quite a few of some of the beads left over and could make one or two more pieces with the leftovers.) Thanks for stopping by. I'll be linking this up to the parties on the...

My very first beaded necklace- Anthro inspired

I'll have to admit- I had never heard of Anthropologie until I started following link parties last year. It really is a great source of inspiration for crafting and just for colors and patterns in general. I have another admission- I'm brand new to jewelry making. Last year I started by making memory wire bracelets , then a pair of earrings . I've been collecting beads since ( I started by trying to use up old beads from another craft but now I have more- what?). I'm just clueless about how to put them together and some of the techniques and such bewilder me. I bit the bullet and finally put a piece together. Anthro's SugarCane and Cocoa was my inspiration. Here is there's: Here's mine: Mine's not a complete knock-off at all. There's is 30 inches in length. Mine's only about 20 inches. I would have loved for mine to be longer but it would have taken larger beads and I was working with what is available at my local Michael's stor...
