Fall Mason Jar Centerpiece

Here's an easy way to add a little fall to your home- a simple centerpiece. I started with an empty tray that I picked up at the thrift store. If you don't have a tray, find a large platter or plate, anything that will ground your centerpiece. The dollar stores often have clear or silver platters for a dollar. Those would work. Next I took three mason jars and filled them with beans and pumpkin spice votives. These are actually Ball canning jars, but I think mason jar has become synonymous with any canning jar, so we'll call them mason jars. I place them in the center of my tray and then arranged a faux leaf garland around them. I filled in with faux pumpkins and gourds and some berry picks. Quick, easy and simple, and I now have a touch of all in my home. Just waiting for the air to cool! Fall Mantel with DIY Chevron Panel

I love the colors of fall and was excited to bring them into my home, but I wasn't quite ready to let go of summer. So just as I did with my porch and tablescape , I left some of my summer elements on the mantel and incorporated some fall. Here's the full shot of the mantel (along with the hideous tube TV and VCR, yes I said tube TV and V. C. R.  and we aren't that old or far behind on technology. We just don't watch TV.) Lets take a closer look at the lovely details: I left out one of the framed sea shells and homemade starfish and added some pumpkins. I made a chevron panel in orange to add a pop of color as a backdrop. My houndstooth duct tape pumpkin is making an appearance again. The panel and pumpkin will make an easy transition to Halloween. The other side features more pumpkins, seashells and some leaves on a frame . Below on the hearth are some white pumpkins and a scattering of leaves and shells. If you are interested in ma...

Fast and easy fall craft

This has got to be one of the easiest and quickest crafts I've ever done. I was inspired by this project at Midwest Living . I already had a red frame on hand. If you don't, go grab a plain wood one from the craft of dollar store and paint it red. Instead of adding hooks or nails to my frame, I just tied ribbon around each side of the frame and then pinned fake leaves to the ribbon. You can get these leaves in packs from the Dollar Tree, Michaels, or just pull of few off an old garland. I'm using my framed leaves on the mantel and love the pop of color they give. Transitional tablescape and porch: birdcages, butterflies, and pumpkins

Everyone has fall on their mind, but it's so hot here and I'm not really ready to give up summer. Well, the heat, yes, but not summer's colors and styles. So to get a jump on fall decorating but to still be able to enjoy some summer tones too, I married the two seasons with a combination of color, birdcages, and butterflies.   I never did really finish the porch for summer. Yellow was the color I gravited to for the season and I picked up some yellow pillows from Pier One. I just didn't get around to adding all the things I wanted to for the summer. Here is what I had:     A mix of blues, greens, and my new yellow pillows.  I used the placemat pillows from last year again.    To transition to fall I replaced the green lanterns and candleholders with red, and the pillows with the orange placemat pillows .

5 Ways to decorate for fall

Fall is coming, at least on the calendar. It's still very hot here. If you're looking for ways to decorate for fall, here are five fabulous ways (and inexpensive too - you really only have to look to nature for color schemes and materials.)

Fall mantel and blessings garland

Remember my washi tape clothespins ? Remember I said they were part of a bigger project? I'm finally able to reveal my fall mantel and blessings garland. Some simple things on each side of the mantel. And the garland. I used fabric scraps from my stash and tied them to a string of twine to make a garland.  I was inspired by this one at Hoosier Homemade . I mentioned it here about a year ago and made it happend this year. The washi tape clothespins were used to pin doily leaves from the Dollar Tree onto the garland. I wrote "Count Your Blessings" on the center one. I had six more leaves so I asked the hubby to name three things he was thankful for and I added three more. Since we both said each other, I combined it into "You and me" on one leaf.   I think the leaves will become a tradition for us each year since I can change them out.   Just a heads up. I'll be having a Black Friday Sale in my etsy shop November 23, 2012 to ...
