Last year I was inspired by this post to make some altered mini mailboxes for Valentine's Day, but I wanted to make mine a little more dressed up. I started with mini mailboxes from the Target dollar section. I bought mine last year but it was too late to get them done in time for Valentine's Day. I haven't seen them this year, but you can find some similar mini mailboxes HERE.
I took some candle sticks in my stash from Goodwill and gave them a coating of paint. I used Krylon spray paint on the glass ones. I applied a coat of frosted glass from Rustoleum first, then applied the black Krylon. I used black acrylic paint and a foam brush to paint the wooden one.
Next I grabbed some Valentine theme scrapbook papers and my good 'ole Mod Podge and went to work. I used a Kelly Panacci K&Co. set of papers (find similar ones here.) The ends of the mailboxes are removable, so I traced one for a template for the ends. I used a piece of plain white paper to measure the body of the mailbox to determine what size to cut my scrapbook paper. My template came out to 4 3/4 inches x 8 5/8 inches. I layed the paper over the mailbox and marked where the flag end was. Then I punched a hole and cut it out a little bigger for the flag. I then cut a slit out from the hole so the paper would slide over the flag. The slit is covered by the flag when it is down and barely noticeable with the flag up.
After applying the papers with Mod Podge, I had fun embellishing my boxes with felt and paper die cut hearts, rhinestones, stickers, and Making Memories charmed words. I used washi tape to cover the edges of the lids. Next I adhered the boxes to the candlestick pedestals with E6000. Then they were ready for display.

I am obsessed with the lovely uses of Mod Podge. Super cute mini mailboxes and it was really sweet and creative with the candle holders. This would make my kids day to get Valentines in a mini mailbox. : ) New follower and new blog hop if you would like to join in http://onecreativeprocrastinatinggal.blogspot.com/2013/01/inspiration-in-progress-2.html.
