Southern Scraps

I had no idea what I was going to do for a tablescape this year other than the fact that it would involve leaves. I picked up some felt leaf mats at the Dollar Tree when they first came out and knew that the rich deep red would be a good building base for a fall/Thanksgiving table. I also found some amber tinted votives at the thrift store over the summer and I knew I wanted to use them. I decided to pull out my gold table runner and the glass tray and get started. Each place setting consists of a leaf mat, white plate from my Greek Key collection, a leaf salad plate by BHG from Wal-mart, thrifted goblets, white napkin tied with raffia and a handmade tag. Each tag has a Bible verse of thanksgiving and was printed in Amienne font. I printed four verses on cardstock, then cut them out with a tag template. After I swapped out the pillows on the back porch and replaced the decor with some fall things, I set up a casual tablescape on the porch table. I think it would be lovely for a Thanksgiving brunch. I picked up the plates from Target on clearance and the felt pumpkin mats at the Dollar Tree before Halloween. I had intended to set a Halloween table but it never happened. I had no idea what I was going to do for the centerpiece but I grabbed some things  I had on hand and it came together. I picked up a couple of garlands from Michael's at 80% off because I was looking for filler for a tray for the inside (details on that later.) I had this garland left over and I've had this brass Party Lite candle holder for years. I don't care for brass much now but I covered it with the garland so it works. I'm here to share my fall vignette and decor with you. I know for some of you,  it's late for fall decor. Other bloggers were sharing in September, but I traditionally wait until Halloween is over. I quickly took the Halloween vignette centerpiece from Halloween to fall by removing the skull, crow, candlestick, spider, and creepy stuff, and added more pumpkins.   The houndstooth pumpkins stayed in place and I put out some other pumpkins and candles. There are more pumpkins and fall colored fillers in a bowl on the shelf below too. In the past I have used a bouquet on the sofa table, but this year I put it on the morning room table with some votives for an easy touch of fall in that area. Just a heads up. Before I get into Must Do Monday, let me say "Thank You" to our veterans and active military. You sacrifice so much for everyone else. I hope all of you have some time to reflect today, even if this isn't an official holiday for you. This week is all about projects that you can do with lace. I made these healthy lowfat pumpkin waffles last weekend. I must admit my title is a little misleading- the recipe does call for brown sugar, but I accidentally left it out. ( I must get in too big of a hurry. Remember when I left the eggs out of these cookies ? At least my mistakes haven't hurt the final product.)  Since you usually put sweet toppings on waffles, you might not miss the sugar. Hubby had his with honey, and said they were fine. You see mine covered in pure homemade cane syrup, and folk's that stuff is sweet. If you have a taste for low sugar, you might like them without the sugar. It's been a while since I've shared a Fabulous Friday find . Not because they aren't out there, just because I've been too busy to do the extra post. Today I'm sharing this fabulous find from Brassy Apple. It's a much needed one this time of year because we are all back into jeans and sweaters or long shirts. Do your pants ever curl away from your button, creating an annoying "pooch" when you pull your shirt down over them? Mine do. And I hate it. I want a smooth silhouette, not a bumpy one. I made these as part of a bigger project that isn't finished yet, but these are so cute and fun I couldn't resist sharing them now.  I took some clothespins and covered them with washi tape. I chose fall colors to coordinate with my project. The washi tape came from Target. This was a really quick way to dress up clothespins . Think of all the ways they could now be used: magnets photo frames The planter and mirror in my previous post would be fun in clothespins dressed up like this. How would you use them?
