Loft feather brooch knock off

A couple of weeks ago I went into a Loft store for the very first time ever. As with their online inventory, I found much of their stuff out of my price range. However, I did find great inspiration for some projects.

One of them was this feather brooch.  I fell in love but not with the $18.50, so I went to Michael's and purchased some feathers  (or plumes as they are labeled on the bag). I already had felt, pin backs, and jewels at home. Even if I had to buy everything, I could probably get all the supplies for $12-$15 and make numerous brooches. At this point, I've made four.

I stumbled across this cute pillow shop on etsy one day and just had to share it with you-Dede Etsy Shop.

Tried it out Thursday- Salt dough starfish

While browsing around the net, I came across this post on salt dough star fish at Make the Best of It. I had also priced star fish for my beach mantel decor and decided that they cost way too much, so I was thrilled to find these instructions.

WIWW- Refashioned and thrifty

I didn't get a chance to photograph any outfits this week for WWIW at The Pleated Poppy, but some photos were taken of me over the last couple of weekends. I'm wearing some of my diy/refashioned items.

My beach mantel

I resisted the urge to redecorate the mantel as long as I could. After Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day, and Easter, I told myself I was not going to do anything else until we complete the makeover of this mantel and TV space. That may still be a long time coming and I got inspired by some beach and shell themed decor I saw around blog land. Knowing that I had some diy hurricanes and a box of seashells collected over the years, I decided that I should put them to use again. I'm glad I did. Here's my beachy mantel (warning: lots of pictures to follow).

Tried it out Thursday - Strawberry applique dish towel

Hello! I just want to say hi and welcome to my new followers. I'd love to visit each of you but some of you don't have a blog linked to your profile. If you want to remedy that, there's a link to a how-to HERE. Nonetheless, I welcome each of you and hope you will find some inspiration here and share your thoughts and ideas with me as well.

I didn't get around to doing an embellished tank this week, but I did take another stab at some appliqued dish towels. My niece is getting married and is using strawberries in

This week I thought I'd feature some of my favorite necklaces for What I Wore Wednesday at the Pleated Poppy.

Friday Feature- Laugh, Love, and Craft

I've got another fabulous crafter, blogger, and etsy shop owner to highlight for you today- Laura from Laugh, Love, and Craft. She shared this about herself with me:

"I taught for 3 1/2 years before having my daughter Estelle. I have always loved crafting, but didn't really get into it until after her birth. I now stay at home with her and get to be creative through my blog and etsy. I started creating things for Estelle to wear, and then decided to sell them. Many of the things for sale on my etsy site include pacifier clips, hair bows, customized onesies, and a few other things. My blog focuses on crafting, coupons, recipes, and scrapbooking. I love sharing what I do, and learning from others. "

Over in her shop  you'll find adorable hair clips for you or the little one.

While making my tshirt scarf and necklaces, I was hit with the inspiration to make something else with the leftover part of the shirt. The sleeves and the top is leftover when you make the scarf or necklace.

Friday Feature- Etcetorize

I'm pleased to introduce to you today a fabulous seamstress and blogger, Etcetorize. She also sells her handmade clothing and accessories in an online etsy shop, Etcetorize.

Here are a few things about Tamara, the artist behind the shop and blog.

Winner of Sweet Floweret giveaway and apology

The winner of the scripture key fob is Heather Nash! Congrats and thanks for entering.

To the rest of my readers, I apologize. First of all, when I posted this giveaway in the sidebar, I forgot to change the end date from the previous giveaway. You may have thought it was already over. My fault. My apologies to you and to Tina.

Secondly, if you clicked over to visit the Sweet Floweret blog, then you saw that she has decided to take a summer vacation and posted this the day after her feature was posted. So, you may have been thinking, why follow someone who isn't going to post? and you may have been skeptical to enter the giveaway thinking maybe she wouldn't follow through. I  can't blame you. I might have thought the same. I'm apologizing because I want to bring you credible giveaways and features. I'm not saying she's not following through, as she is still running her shop. I just think this was a little untimely. Had I known she would go on vacation from th…

Tried it out Thursday- Summer tshirt scarves

If you are looking for a quick and easy no sew scarf, these are the ones for you. I could not believe how quickly this came together. I love instant gratification!! I have  a stash of tshirts purchased at Michael's for $2.00 a piece on sale. I've had the shirts for several months and I can't believe I put this off. This was so much fun.

I tried out two of the three tutorials from thediydish. I started with the rolled strips/loops scarf ( I just made up that name for it, ha!).  I used two shirts in contrasting colors.

What I Wore Wednesday

Well, this is actually what I wore Friday evening. Are you familiar with What I Wore at the Pleated Poppy? It's a fun link party where everyone links up their outfits and fashion creations. I've never participated before but I love browsing the links for inspiration. I've finally gotten the courage to join (and the time to photograph an outfit- don't expect this to be a regular thing because I just don't have time to take the photos daily.) Here goes:

Tank: Old Navy (clearance);  shorts- Levis dockers (Ross); cardi- Target; sandals: Wal-mart; scarf and bracelet- made by me (more on those in a future post).
Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Fourth of July

Wishing everyone a Happy Fourth of July! Thanks to those who serve to keep us safe and FREE!

Must Do Monday- Scarves- 7 DIY tutorials

I love scarves. I always have but I didn't have the confidence to wear them when I was younger. Girls just didn't wear them where I 'm from when I was in school and I always worried about how they looked on me. I grew up and got over that! I love wearing them now, winter or summer, casual or dress. There are a ton of diy tutorials out there to make your own. Here are a few on my list to try:
