I noticed on the calendar in the March 2008 issue of Paper Crafts that today is National Pig Day. I was curious so I thought I'd find out what this holiday is about. It is not a national holiday as it has not been enacted by Congress, but in 1972, Ellen Stanley, a Texas art teacher, created this day to recognize pigs as intelligent domestic animals.
So what do you do for National Pig Day?
* Make pig crafts (see familycraft.about.com)
* visit a zoo
* eat pork, or
* if you're a little more sensitive to the pigs, and a little more health conscious, I noticed a couple of races to run
* read Charlotte's Web (Wilbur is pretty cool)
* search etsy for pig items
Have fun!
