How to refresh furniture hardware

Painting or refinishing an old piece of furniture can be fun, but what do you do about the hardware? You have two choices- replace the knobs and handles with new ones, or clean and paint the old ones. I chose to paint the old ones on my student desk makeover.   Here they are before- pretty gross!   I took a sheet of 600 grit sandpaper and started sanding away the grime. Make sure you don't use too coarse of  sandpaper or you will leave scratches that will show through your paint. You want to sand just hard enough to remove the grime and scuff the handle enough for the paint to stick. Here it is after some sanding: After sanding I cleaned each handle with alcohol and then let it thoroughly dry. I painted my handles with Rustoleum satin nickel, according to the directions on the can.   I'm happy with my new updated handles and  a can of spray paint was cheaper than new hardware. WIWW- tunic

Blouse- Belk option option option pants- Belk option option necklace- old shoes- Ross option option option Worn May 11, 2014   How do you wear a tunic? I bought this top a few years ago and have only worn it like this and with long black pants. It's one of those items that I wear once a year. It was a clearance purchase back when I made random purchases because they were "cheap" without much thought to how I would actually wear them. I get compliments on this top when I do wear it, but it's probably not getting the best use. Any ideas? (Seriously, leave me your comments or links to some ideas for this top. I'd love to have your opinion.)   Linking up with WIWW

Student Desk makeover

This post contains affiliate links. They don't cost you for clicking but provide me with a few cents if you purchase from them.   I'm excited to share my desk makeover with you this week! Last year my hubby built a counter height craft table for me and I refurbished a bar stool to go with it. I love the table and hope to share it one day too. I just need to finish getting my craft room in order because there is no way to photograph just the table. (We make slow progress around here.)

Paleo lemon brownies

On Monday I shared ten paleo lemon treats ( cookies, cakes, and bars) and today I wanted to share one more that has quicky become my favorite. I found this recipe for Paleo lemon brownies through pinterest. I modified it a little to make it dairy free because my husband doesn't tolerate butter. Below are the ingredients I used: Ingredients 1/4 cup almond flour 1/4 cup tapioca flour 1/4 cup coconut flour 1/3 cup honey 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup coconut oil melted 2 eggs 2 1/2 teaspoons lemon zest 2 Tablespoons lemon juice (juice of half a lemon) For the glaze 2 Tablespoons coconut oil 2 Tablespoons honey 1 teaspoon lemon juice 1 teaspoon lemon zest Pinch of salt I followed the directions in the original recipe with the exception of one thing: I did not use my food processor or electric mixer. I stirred everything by hand. They still came out great! (I find it easier to wash a spoon than the mixers or blades to the processor and I could use the exerc

WIWW- Mint cardigan

Cardigan- Old Navy option dress- Old Navy option option shoes- Old Navy option necklace- JCrew Factory bracelets- DIY Worn May 4, 2014   It's been a while since I did a WIWW post here. I was really busy at work last month so the blog was ignored for the most part, but I'm back to share this bright and comfy outfit. I just realized that almost all of it came from Old Navy. All pieces were bought at different times. But I guess that's the good thing about shopping at the same store over and over- their pieces will coordinate.   Linking up with WIWW .

10 Paleo Lemon Treats

Even though lemons can be in season year round, something about spring and summer makes me want lemon flavored goodies this time of year. Before our diet change, one of my favorite candies was Lemon heads. Now I try not to consume sugar and artificial flavors and colors, so I've rounded up ten lemon treats that are gluten and/or grain free and dairy free.
